Since setting off your own fireworks is prohibited on the island, here are a few ideas for how to still enjoy one of your favorite ways to celebrate the 4th of July.
- The Sandbar Restaurant (100 Spring Ave., Anna Maria, FL), has hosted a fireworks show for more than 30 years. The event takes place at their outdoor wedding pavilion at dusk.
- Fireworks Spectacular over Sarasota Bay.Part of the Suncoast Offshore Festival, viewing is free from anywhere downtown including Bayfront Park and Island Park or from the beaches on Anna Maria Island. The display is an awesome sight from a boat anchored on Sarasota Bay.
- Watch minor-league team the Bradenton Marauders take on the Palm Beach Cardinals for their Independence Day Celebration game on July 3 – a perfect opportunity for some patriotic fun a day before the 4th at LECOM Park. The first 1,500 fans will get free T-shirts, and everyone can enjoy the fireworks show sponsored by Budweiser.
- The annual week-long Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix Festival culminates in the Bayfront Fireworks Spectacular (5 Island Park Dr., Sarasota, FL) on the night of July 4.
